One of Leadcom's most significant projects, both in scope and volume, was the full turnkey project for the Ethiopian Telecommunications Corp. (ETC), through one of Leadcom's vendor-partners. The project entailed expansion of the GSM network to cover 600,000 subscribers, in two phases.
Initiated early in 2005 and spanning well into 2006, this challenging project involved the deployment of 350 sites, at a rate of one site per day and a half.
The ETC project required Leadcom to illustrate its full capabilities and skills, to overcome the challenges of working in a variety of environments ranging from developed urban to extreme rural and mountainous locations. The services rendered by Leadcom included site survey, network planning, core planning, civil engineering and tower erection, commissioning and integration, supply of power and solar systems, and optimization.
When launched, Leadcom utilized staff from subsidiaries in the EMEA region as well as from other regions. Today, Leadcom Ethiopia employs 25 local professionals; many of them are providing support to ongoing projects in other parts of the EMEA region, as well as to ongoing work in Ethiopia. |
